Here is a simple and delicious recipe for the classic gin cocktail everyone should know how to make. Inspired by a recipe from a favorite restaurant in Portland, OR, this will become your new favorite.

The Negroni is a classic gin cocktail that is easy to make and a favorite among many. Because of it's sweet nature, the Negroni is enjoyed by those who even claim not to like gin 🤯. The classic Negroni is made with Campari and is not my favorite because it's too sweet (is that a thing??? I guess it can be in very limited circumstances).

Here is an updated version of a Negroni that lends a herbal quality that is simply divine. Add a made-in-Oregon liquor called Calisaya and you won't be sorry. Here is what wikipedia says about it: "Calisaya is a herbal liqueur (that) is a contemporary revision of the classic Italian amaro. It is handcrafted in small numbered batches by Elixir, Inc., a craft distillery in Eugene, Oregon."

Ingredients:

1 oz. Old Tom Gin (I use Ransom)

1 oz. Sweet Vermouth

1 oz. Calisaya

1 orange peel strip

Squeeze oil from orange peel into chilled glass and swirl around rim for aroma and flavor. Stir all ingredients in a stirring glass until well chilled and pour into prepared glass. Add orange peel to top and enjoy!
