Since St. Patrick’s Day is on Sunday, I thought I would share my favorite green cocktail recipe and some quick, easy, cheap and fun ideas for the day. A lot of these things I remember from my childhood, my Mom always remembered St. Patrick's Day and had a plan. Thanks, Mom!

10 things to Make or Do on St. Patrick’s Day

(for adults and kids!)

1. Green Cocktails: The Last Word, Margaritas, a Mojito, or anything with Midori or Green Chartreuse will work.

My favorite green cocktail of all time is the Last Word (it's not that green👆🏻). This is a classic craft cocktail that started making a comeback over the years. It's tart, sweet and super flavorful. Plus, it has gin. Enough said. Add 1 oz. each of gin, green chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice in a shaker with ice, shake, strain, garnish with a lime twist or cherry and enjoy!

2. Green Beer: Just add green food coloring (1 drop)! It's weird and probably against the law in Oregon where I live (craft brewery central), but still a popular thing.

3. Green Mashed Potatoes: This is the first thing I think of from my childhood, my Mom made these every year and we thought it was the greatest thing ever. Seriously, if you have kids, they will think it's so fun. Plus, who doesn't love mashed potatoes? Just add some food coloring. My mom's secret to the best ever mashed potatoes? Sour cream. And lot's of it.

4. Corned Beef and Hash: Also something my mom always made but I don't think we ever had it with eggs. Here is a recipe from food network with eggs and cheese....yes please!

5. Green ice cream or green pistachio pudding: Ok, so basically buy something that is already green. A great excuse to buy some green mint ice cream??...just sayin'.

6. Green Nails: This is a great one for adults and kids. Find some inexpensive green nail polish and have fun nails for the day. You’ll be wearing green and look cool 😎. Unless you love green, don’t spend a lot on this one, it’s probably a once-a-year kind of thing.

7. Green Play Dough: Quick and easy to make, non-toxic in case you dog eats it (yup, that happened), and fun! All you need is flour, salt, vegetable oil, cream of tartar and food coloring. Get the recipe HERE.

8. Pot of Gold Scavenger Hunt: When I think of St. Patrick's day, of course I think of leprechauns and rainbows and pots of gold! Why not have a fun scavenger hunt around the house to find the pot of gold?! The "gold" can be candy or coins or a fun toy. Head on over to the Dollar Tree and find everything you need to create an activity your kids will love.

9. Green Hair: Listen, I'm not one of those ultra cool people who can pull off green hair unless it's Halloween or St Patrick's Day. But, since it is, why not?!? You can buy clip-ins or wash out, both on Amazon. Have green hair for the day and then down the drain and back to normal.

10. Green Freckles: This one is also from my mom, she did this for me a few times when I was in elementary school and I always loved to be the first of my friends to do this. Take non-toxic face paint, like this one on Amazon, and make a few freckles on your child’s face. A simple way to get them to have green on and start a new trend!

I hope this list inspired you to do a little more than wear a green shirt or have a guinness on St. Patrick's Day.
